Pahiyas Festival 2011 (part 1)

May 14-15, 2011

sunny

Every year kasi I always wanted to go to Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon pero for some reason hindi ako natutuloy. Our team decided to go to Pahiyas in Quezon Province few months before the event.

There are many things happened bago ang May 15.

Swerte talaga when Lhen (my malusog na officemate) found the Quezon Premier Hotel in Lucena City. I called the hotel and booked a room for 11 persons. Luckily, there are 3 rooms ang available pa and mura talaga yung price nung hotel room nila. When we checked the website, maganda naman yung hotel and take note, with swimming pool pa ha. Sunod naman na inaayos namin is yung service vehicle namin going to Quezon. Fortunately, Lhen’s sister found one for us.

May 14, 2011, the most awaited date came. Then after the breakfast we headed to Lucena City in Quezon Province.

At last...dumating na din yung sundo namin...Toyota Hi-Ace 14 Seater

Umalis kami ng APS Center 6:30 am then we reached Lucena around 11 in the morning. Sabi namin matututulog kami sa byahe pero it turned out na wala halos natulog sa whole duration ng byahe namin. Siguro dahil excited ang lahat. We are all 13 in the group na nagpunta sa Quezon (Lhen, Joni, NIcee, Erwin, Ron, Loise, Jeff, Pacs, Rain, Sheiy, Jhen, Joanna, at ako syempre).

Pagdating sa hotel, inaayos lang namin ang mga room assignments at mga gamit tapos konting picture taking then we had our lunch. Naghanap kami ng malapit na resto and we saw this restaurant, Jimmy’s Grill. Pagdating naming sa loob we noticed na yung signage na nakalagay sa door is “SORRY WE’RE CLOSE” pero sige lang gutom na kami.

I ordered inihaw na liempo and naghati kami ni Lhen sa Bulalo. Yung iba they ordered kare-kare, cordon bleu, fish, chicken, etc. We even asked for refill ng sabaw ng bulalo. Yummy talaga at sobrang busog. SARAP!!!

After the sumptuous lunch, we went back to the hotel to rest para naman me lakas kami sa gabi para sa swimming. So, I decided to swim. After 45 minutes ng swimming I decided to prepare na for dinner.

large_DSC_0666.jpg
ready na for dinner...

We left the hotel and we went to Kamayan Sa Palaisdaan Restaurant in Lucban. It took us almost 45 minutes to reach the place. Specialty nila ay anything cooked with gata (coconut milk). Joanna and I ordered ginataang alimango, fern salad, apple shake, and mango shake.

When the waiter delivered our ordered we were advised na ang pagkain dito ay kamayan (no spoon/fork). After washing our hands, sabak na agad sa kainan. As usual galit galit ang grupo habang kumakain.

So ginawa nilang game ang paghanap nun. Lolz…Luckily, Loise found it.

large_1DSC_0894.jpg

Then I slept for a while and woke up around 6 am. Ready for Pahiyas Festival in Lucban, Quezon.

Birthday Trip to Baguio

sunny

Last February 18, 2011, my mom celebrated her 51st birthday. This year we celebrated her birthday more privately. I cooked pasta for merienda, enough for our relatives. This year also, I decided to treat Mom a family trip to Baguio. Mom was so excited with the tour because this is her first time to visit Baguio.

large_0DSC_0041.jpg
large_DSC_0040.jpg
large_DSC_0037.jpg

We took the last trip of Victory Liner Manila to Baguio. We left Manila at 11 in the evening and we arrived in Baguio around 5 in the morning. As usual, we bought first our return ticket to Manila. Then we went to Pinebreeze Cottages, our accommodation site in Baguio.

large_DSC_0493.jpg

large_DSC_0057.jpg
large_DSC_0069.jpg
large_DSC_0065.jpg
large_DSC_0070.jpg

The time we arrived at Pinebreeze, our room is still occupied by other tenants so we just left our things for safekeeping so that we can start our activities. First, we went to the Mansion, the summer residence of the President of the Philippines. Immediately after taking some souvenir shots we went to Wrights Park for some sightseeing and walking exercise.

large_DSC_0089.jpg
large_DSC_0111.jpg
large_DSC_0123.jpg

We walked from Wrights Park all the way to St. Joseph’s Church but unfortunately, we were not able to take some pictures inside the church because funeral mass was held in the church that time. So we went to Botanical instead. Sinulit talaga namin yung chance na we were complete in the family in this tour.

large_DSC_0148.jpg
large_DSC_0165.jpg
large_CSC_0516.jpg
large_DSC_0067.jpg

Next in the list is Burnham Park. I asked them kung gusto nila na magboating sa lagoon sa park but Papa refused to join us. Enjoy yung time na nasa boat kami dahil kahit maiinit ang panahon, we had time na makapagkwentuhan at magbiruan dito.

large_DSC_0203.jpg
large_DSC_0078.jpg

We decided to have lunch sa Sizzling Steakhouse. I love this restaurant dahil bukod sa masarap ang food, affordable pa ang prices nito. Habang kumakain, talagang galit galit muna. Walang pansinan talaga dahil sa gutom at pagod siguro. After the sumptuous lunch, we went back to the accommodation site to have some rest.

large_DSC_0211.jpg

Almost 5 in the afternoon na ng umalis kami ng Pinebreeze papunta ng Grotto. Pagdating namin ng Grotto si Mama at Nanay Dely (my grandmother) nagrosary muna sila doon. After they prayed the Holy Rosary, we went to SM Baguio to have our dinner. Nalibot na namin yung buong SM Baguio pero wala silang napiling restaurant where we can have dinner. My brother Roy suggested, Dencios. Cousin Kate and my adopted daughter Faye seconded the suggestion.

large_DSC_0249.jpg
large_DSC_0221.jpg
large_DSC_0241.jpg
large_DSC_0326.jpg
large_DSC_0327.jpg
large_DSC_0267.jpg

Nanay Dely suggested that instead of eating out for breakfast the next day, magluto na lang daw kami ng food sa lodging site namin since meron naman daw mga kitchen utensils dun. So, we went first to the Supermarket to buy food for breakfast. Kaya ang ending pagdating sa counter, I paid almost 2,000 (imagine for breakfast???) nakakatawa talaga.

Pagdating sa Pinebreeze, Papa, Roy, Kate and I had some beer while watching TV and after few hours inantok na din at nagpahinga for the next day’s activity.

The following day, sobrang aga nagising ng Mama ko. I think gising na sya ng 4am to cook our breakfast. The best ka talaga Ma!!!! We had bacon, hotdog, egg, bread, and fried rice for breakfast.

large_DSC_0331.jpg

We attended the 8 am mass at the Baguio Cathedral. After the mass, we went to Philippine Military Academy. Swerte dahil pagdating namin dun me performance yung mga graduating cadets. They called it “Silent Drill.”

large_DSC_0339.jpg
large_DSC_0363.jpg
large_DSC_0371.jpg
large_DSC_0375.jpg

After the performance, nilibot namin yung iba’t ibang places sa PMA. Then we went back to Session Road to have our Lunch. We had our lunch at Pizza Volante Restaurant. We ordered pasta puttanesca and Bolognese and 4-cheese pizza. Nanay Dely and Papa ordered set menu of chicken, spaghetti, and rice. Basta for me average lang yung lasa ng food that Pizza Volante is serving.

large_DSC_0409.jpg
large_DSC_0406.jpg

The next stop is Minesview Park. Si Mama parang bata, nagpapicture pa while riding a horse. We ate inihaw na pusit and other streetfood sa Minesview.

large_DSC_0412.jpg
large_DSC_0427.jpg
large_DSC_0434.jpg
large_DSC_0435.jpg
large_DSC_0438.jpg

Afterwards, we went to Good Shepherd convent to buy some pasalubong. The best kasi yung strawberry and ube jam nila dito. Bumili din ako ng lengua de gato and alfajur (yan ang mga must try nila). Then we went sa market to buy some souvenirs like walis tambo (yeah…walis talaga ewan ko ba kung ako masusunod I will not buy walis as pasalubong pero Mama and Nanay insisted na matibay daw kasi yung gawang Baguio).

large_DSC_0440.jpg
large_DSC_0441.jpg

After buying Pasalubong, since nasa market na kami bumili na din kami ng dinner na lulutuin sa accommodation site. We bought fish, veggies, and fruits for dinner. Mama cooked the dinner for us. Then after ng dinner, nagrest lang kami ng kaunti para sa makapagprepare sa mahabang byahe to Manila.

We took the 10pm trip of Victory Liner to Manila. I know Mama enjoyed my birthday gift to her. We love you Ma!

Baguio's Panagbenga Festival

February 2011

sunny

Ano nga ba ang Panagbenga Festival? Let’s consult MR. WIKI…

According to WIKIPEDIA: Panagbenga Festival is a month-long annual flower festival occurring in Baguio City, the summer capital of thePhilippines. The term is Malayo-Polynesian origin, meaning “season of blooming.” The festival, held during the month of February, was created as a tribute to the city’s flowers and as a way to rise up from the devastation of the 1990 Luzon earthquake. The Festival includes floats that are decorated with flowers unlike those used Pasadena’s Rose Parade. The festival also includes street dancing, presented by dancers clad in flower-inspired costumes that are inspired by the Bendian, an Ibaloi dance of celebration that came from Cordillera Region.

My friend and I booked our bus ticket at the Victory Liner bus terminal as early as January. It is advisable to book your ticket in advance to prevent difficulty in getting bus tickets for your trip to Panagbenga Festival.

We left Manila Friday at 11 evening and we arrived in Baguio around 5am. The first thing we did is to book our ticket to Manila. It took us more or less 1 hour bago kami nakabili ng return ticket namin sa Manila.

Naghanap kami ng magandang post to watch the Street Dancing.

large_CSC_0136.jpg

It was already 8am when the parade started. It was participated by the local government officials, public offices, private corporation, schools, and different establishments in Baguio. PMA Cadets lead the parade.

large_DSC_0023.jpg

large_DSC_0638.jpg
large_DSC_0644.jpg
large_DSC_0651.jpg
large_DSC_0697.jpg
large_DSC_0712.jpg

Around 11 am when the Street Dancing Parade ended. After that we went to our lodging site, the Peak Blossom Hotel. Hindi masyadong maganda ang service nila dito. Most of the time walang hot water. Yeah your heard me right, walang hot water so no choice kung hindi maligo ka ng malami na tubig (as in parang galing sa ref). I will not recommend this lodging site to the tourists na magbabakasyon with their family sa Baguio. Promise, you will be disappointed.

large_DSC_0133.jpg

Eniweiz, after namin na makabawi ng tulog (ito ang pinakamasarap gawin sa Baguio), we went out to explore some tourist spots sa Baguio pero tama pala ang sabi nila na if you want to explore the Beauty of Baguio huwag kang pupunta ng Panagbenga. Sobrang traffic at sobrang dami ng tao. So, we ended up having our early dinner then naglakad ng konti sa Session Road. After that uminom lang ng konti then we went back to the Hotel.

Sunday is the Big Day for Panagbenga Festival. We woke up early and unfortunately walang hot water. Huh!

large_DSC_0530.jpg
large_DSC_0101.jpg

See you in Baguio in February 2012 for the Panagbenga Festival!!!

Para sa Aking Tanging Ina....

A Mother's Day Special

rain

May 08, 2011 ang Mother’s Day ngayong taon. Sunday morning, I went to Dangwa to buy flowers for my Mom. I know this is not enough to say “thank you and I love you.” I gave the flowers to her and I whisper to her ears while I am hugging her “Ma Happy Mother’s Day…We love you and Salamat Po sa lahat.” After I said that to my Mom, she kissed me and with her teary eye she said “Salamat Anak..”

large_DSC04173.jpg

On the evening we had dinner sa labas. Before we left the house, I asked my mother what particular cuisine she wanted to eat. She replied “Kahit ano..yung hindi natin lagi kinakain dito sa bahay.”

Honestly, maraming choices akong naisip pero I decided to bring them to Dad’s Kamayan Saisaki Restaurant in West Ave in Quezon City. Naisip ko sila dun dalhin dahil maraming food choices, from Chinese, Japanese, Italian, Spanish, and Filipino Cuisine.

large_DSC04228.jpg

We were immediately served by the staff of the restaurant.

large_DSC04201.jpg
large_DSC04200.jpg
large_DSC04199.jpg
large_DSC04198.jpg
large_DSC04197.jpg

On that note, nagsimula ang giyera sa kainan. Ako, as usual, I indulged myself sa mga Japanese food especially Tempura, Maki, and Sushi (my all time favorite). Faye and Mom started with tempura and some Filipino dishes.

After the first plate, syempre sayang naman kung hindi masusundan di ba? Kaya sinamantala talaga namin yung pagkakataon. I can’t remember kung nakailang balik kami sa buffet table. The only thing that I can remember is yung taste ng food na kinain namin.

After I paid the bill, the waiter handed a gift pack to my Mom. WOW! may special gift pala sila for all the Mothers na kakain sa restaurant nila that day.

We went to Starbucks Coffee Shop along West Avenue. Mom and I ordered Cappuccino while Faye ordered her all time favorite Frap Strawberries and Cream. While drinking coffee, nakapagkwentuhan at nakapagbonding kaming 3 about sa mga buhay buhay. Biruan….picture-taking…jokes.. and serious matter…

large_DSC04232.jpg
large_DSC04241.jpg
large_DSC04242.jpg

Around 10:30 in the evening when Mom said “Tara na uwi na tayo…” Then Faye finished her drink and we went home. That was an awesome night, a night to remember. Before I went to sleep, I prayed and thanked God because He gave me such a great and loving mother. Wala na kong mahihiling pa.

Mama…Walang Hanggang Pasasalamat….Mahal Ka Namin at Patuloy Pang Mamahalin….

Ilocos Invasion

Day 3-Sept 6, 2011

sunny

Maaga kaming gumising lahat dahil maraming schedule activities for this day and our destination is Vigan.
Our first stop, is Baluarte Zoo which is owned by Gov. Chavit Singson. I think kung limited time lang meron kayo to explore Vigan, you can skip this place na.

After visiting the Baluarte Zoo we went to the Plaza Proper of Vigan. Nagpunta muna kami sa Town Hall nila, sa may tourism office nila to get some brochures ng mga dapat puntahan sa Vigan. After getting some brochures/flyers, nagpunta na kami agad sa Empanadaan.

After the quick lunch at Empanadaan, we went to Calle Crisologo for some picture taking and to buy pasalubongs. Kahit na maraming mga tindahan sa Calle Crisologo they were able to maintain yung cleanliness and antiquity nung place. Yung mga modern restaurant like Max’s, McDonalds, Jollibee, and Chowking, talagang binagay nila yung design ng store nila sa setting sa Vigan. Syempre bumili ako nga famous bagnet, longganisa, chichacorn, and brownies from Marcia’s.

After buying pasalubongs, we decided to go back to Laoag to visit other spots like the Marcos Mausoleum. Along the way, nagstop over muna kami sa mga garlic stand sa Pinili Ilocos. Then, dumiretso na kami sa Batac, Ilocos Norte dumaan muna kami sa Jollibee to have our lunch.

Jobi meets Jobi....face to face..

So, nagikot muna kami sa place at museum dun.

The next stop is Sand Dunes….the historic sand dunes kung saan nagshooting ng Panday. So what we did is i-enjoy na lang namin yung view at magjump shot na lang kami.

Afterwards, we head back to Tita Sally’s house for the inuman.

The following day, is VOMIT DAY (gusto nyo yan ha…). Sa CR, lababo, terrace, labahan name it me tumatawag ng uwak.

Ready to go home na....

Overall, this Ilocos trip is amazing. This trip is truly memorable and amazing…O san sunod na lakad natin???
